B&E - Top Tier Business School

Trajectory of Success

The College of Business and Economics is riding a wave a momentum. In the past two years, we've made great strides toward our vision of "Better, Bigger, Ranked."

Top Rankings

The College received its first-ever top-100 undergraduate business schools ranking by Bloomberg BusinessWeek in March 2011. Ten months later, U.S. News & World Report awarded top-100 rankings to our online M.B.A. program in the areas of faculty credentials and training, teaching practices and student engagement, admissions selectivity, and student services and technology.

These rankings reflect a past focused on great teaching and research. They help us attract higher caliber students, prompting greater internships, job placement, and societal contribution by graduates.

Four-Year College

The four-year college system admits students as freshmen rather than during their junior years, giving students earlier access to academic advice, opportunities to join B&E student clubs, and improved internship prospects. The result is a much more robust academic experience.

Revamped M.B.A.

Our M.B.A. program has been transformed in response to a more international marketplace. This includes greater selectivity, better options for specialization, and more modes of delivery.

New Ph.D. in Business Administration

The Business Administration Ph.D. is designed to prepare highly qualified and motivated individuals in areas of concentration including Accounting, Finance, Management, or Marketing. The program provides more educational opportunities, elevates our national standing, helps in recruiting faculty, and ultimately improves faculty research.

Joint Programs

Cross-disciplinary partnerships have not only proven successful in the past, but have also helped to differentiate our students as they enter the marketplace. Existing joint programs include the M.B.A./M.D. with the School of Medicine, M.B.A./M.S. in Sport Management with the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, and the M.B.A./J.D. with the College of Law. We are also preparing to launch joint M.B.A. programs with the WVU Schools of Dentistry and Pharmacy.

Placing Our Students

The College has heightened its commitment to internships and job placement. For business students, employers recruiting on campus increased 39 percent; Fortune 500 companies' recruitment of business students is up 68 percent; and job postings for College of Business and Economics students is up 40 percent. (2010-11 academic year vs. 2009-10)

From new endowed chairs to scholarships for students, alumni and friends are allowing the College to achieve new heights in teaching, research, and outreach.
