WVU Faculty Grants for Research and Scholarship

The WVU Faculty Senate Grant Program supports the activities of the primary investigator. Support is available to full time faculty for research support during summer months. Details regarding the program are available at http://osp.research.wvu.edu

The deadline for the 2015 funding cycle has not yet been published, but last year the deadlines were in October, January, March, and May. Funds will be made available July 1, 2015 and must be spent by June 30, 2016. All proposals submitted from B&E should be reviewed and approved prior to this date by Dr. Nancy McIntyre, Senior Associate Dean. Sufficient lead time should be provided to allow for substantive feedback and modification prior to the submission deadline.

WVU Faculty Grants for Public Service

The WVU Faculty Public Service Grants are designed to stimulate and support public service projects that benefit the citizens of West Virginia and are conducted by members of the Faculty Assembly and other full-time regular employees. Funding from this program is intended to encourage development of additional support for these projects from other sources in the future.

WVU Faculty Travel Grants

Helps full-time faculty to attend regional, national, or international professional affairs in order to present or perform scholarly or artistic works. Because the committee receives more requests for support than it can fully fund, funding is currently limited to faculty who are presenting or performing at a professional conference. The committee does not consider co-authorship in which the faculty member is not actively presenting or performing (e.g. faculty is a co-author with a student or colleague who is actually presenting) to fulfill this requirement. If two faculty members from WVU are presenting a paper which has been co-authored, only one will be funded. Priority for the limited travel funds will be given to support faculty travel to international and national level professional conferences over local or regional ones.  Funding limits are now $600 for travel within the continental United States and $900 for travel to Alaska and Hawaii as well as international travel including Canada and Mexico. If two faculty members are presenting a co-authored work, both members are eligible to apply for Faculty Travel funding. Only one application will be funded for any individual during a given program year.

WVU Faculty Development Grants

Supports activities that lead to professional growth in teaching, research and service. Example activities include:

  • Participation in workshops, classes and seminars.
  • The organization of lectures, symposia and conferences for West Virginia University faculty.
  • Special projects or opportunities that lead to professional development.
  • Travel to libraries to conduct research.

More than one application may be funded for an individual during a given program year. Note: if a faculty member has received a WVU Faculty Travel Grant and desires to attend another meeting, it is recommended that they attend the second meeting for professional development purposes.

WVU Faculty International Grants

The Faculty International Grant Program supports activities in the area of research, curriculum development and outreach. A proposal is more likely to be funded if it can be viewed as "seed money" for clearly planned project development and with significant potential for a long-term impact on the entire University or on one or more of its units.  This program does not fund short-term lecturing or travel to international conferences or symposia. Requests for support to engage in exploratory discussions which are hoped to yield long-term results will not receive high priority. Support is available to all faculty members regardless of subject matter, expertise, length of service or tenure-track status. Faculty members may apply individually or as a group. Activities may focus on a single content area or may be multidisciplinary.
