Forensic faculty receive two new research awards
June 2013

Dean Sartarelli

The College of Business and Economics continues to raise the bar higher than ever in its existence in the area of research, as is evident in the news articles in this month's E-News.

Our continuing emphasis and commitment by faculty on research demonstrates that the College is dedicated to constant improvement. For example:

  • Drs. Jack Dorminey, Scott Fleming and Dick Riley published three different papers that resulted in three prestigious awards in the areas of forensic research, forensic accounting and fraud examination. Perhaps the most notable aspect of these awards is that they came from three markedly different constituencies, communities that found the research to be highly factual and valuable.
  • Dr. Jun Xia, assistant professor of management at B&E, helped three management Ph.D. students secure invaluable research information from the internationally renowned Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City. The three students needed data on young businesses that provide goods and services to the U.S. Government, and the collective effort of faculty and graduate students helped land the valuable research at no cost to B&E. That effort also included Dr. Matt Marvel, B&E's endowed Coffman Chair of Entrepreneurial Studies, who helped edit the proposal.

These announcements come on the heels of the 2013 Dean's Awards of Distinction, which included awards for research to Dr. Annie Peng Cui, assistant professor of marketing (two A+ publications), as well as two Dean's Summer Research Grant awards to Michael Walsh, Ph.D., and Paula Fitzgerald, Ph.D., also in the Department of Marketing.

These examples of faculty research efforts also serve as the bedrock for recruiting top-notch faculty to B&E. As you will read over the next few months, new faculty at the College include those who are highly accomplished and recognized researchers who not only improve the quality of academic leaders at our school, but also provide a high level of academic opportunity for our students. This is yet another component we believe will lead us to our goal of "Better. Bigger. Ranked."
