WVU B&E
BrickStreet donates $3 million
February 2013

DEAR ALUMNI, FRIENDS, & STUDENTS,

Dean Sartarelli

The announcement of a $3 million gift to our College by the BrickStreet Foundation this week signified much more than the naming of the BrickStreet Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. It signifies a transformation at our business school that encompasses increased opportunities for entrepreneurial education, access for younger audiences to entrepreneurial thought and education, and an environment where new technologies, new companies and new jobs are born.

This generous gift will allow the College of Business and Economics to sustain its current programming and expand entrepreneurship education throughout West Virginia, elevating the quality and number of programs offered. It will enhance all three sides to the entrepreneurship triangle -- academics, programming and experiential learning.

On the academics side, the gift will provide funding for the enhancement of the Entrepreneurship minor that is offered at B&E, and advance us closer to the development of an Entrepreneurship major. On the programming side, the gift will allow us to add more tracks to the statewide collegiate West Virginia Business Plan Competition hosted by B&E; provide for the creation of a West Virginia Statewide High School Business Plan Competition; and enhance our Mobile Apps Challenge. On the experiential learning side, students will have access to real life opportunities such as business feasibility studies, business plan development for proposed or existing companies, and opportunities to develop operating plans and operating budgets for these companies.

The result will be the development of new technologies, new companies and new jobs in West Virginia and across the country, as well as a platform to reach out to high school students and allow them to explore their entrepreneurial interests. For this, we extend heartfelt gratitude to BrickStreet for its generosity, and an invitation to you—our alumni, donors, faculty, staff and friends of the College—to join us for this exciting ride.

Regards,
Jose V. Sartarelli, Ph.D.
