WVU B&E
EU Ambassador Visits B&E
April 2014

DEAR ALUMNI, FRIENDS, & STUDENTS,

Dean Sartarelli

The higher education environment is a competitive one where defining characteristics are examined in great detail. One of the characteristics that your College of Business and Economics works hard on every day is increasing the value of the overall student experience. This month's B&E E-News is a great example of our focus on students.

Over the past month, B&E has hosted former WVU professor Jack Bowman, who spoke on the topic of ethics, and two important speakers in the Distinguished Speaker Series: Jerry MacCleary of Bayer MaterialScience and European Union Ambassador to the United States João Vale de Almeida. The College has also hosted the Collegiate Business Plan Competition and two ceremonies honoring outstanding students, the PNC Honors and the Beta Gamma Sigma Honors. Additionally, B&E has created a partnership with a global apparel company and received a gift that represents the original construction of a student study center, as well as the renovation of that center.

B&E has signed an agreement that will create an MBA program specifically for engineering students, and we announce the recipients of the Dean's Awards for outstanding faculty and staff for their service ultimately to students and the betterment of the College. We also discuss an opportunity for students to take part in the Corporate Social Responsibility course to fund community programs and projects. And we take a look at the gentleman who is a B&E alumnus and a leading corporate executive for Visa who will address students at the Commencement ceremony in May.

This is not — this cannot be — just a trend. Increasing the value of the outstanding student experience is a characteristic that makes our business school special.

This is a reflection of our commitment to students and to the value our students receive, both inside and outside the classroom. This is our commitment to not only help mold great students, but to help mold great people. These efforts are our commitment to excellence and to take B&E to the next level. And this a component in our commitment to be "Better. Bigger. Ranked."

Regards,
Jose V. Sartarelli, Ph.D.
